[info] [tickets]I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness formed in 2001 and distinguished itself from the plethora of bands in Austin with two stellar releases. The band’s self-titled debut EP was produced by Spoon’s Britt Daniel and dropped in 2003. After 2006’s equally impressive Fear Is On Our Side, produced by Paul Barker (formerly of Ministry), the band went on somewhat of a hiatus and had us wondering if we’d ever hear from them again. But this year, the band made a triumphant return during SXSW and we’re excited to report that ILYBICD will be performing at The Mohawk this Thursday. We touched base with Timothy White from the band earlier this week and learnt that “the chemistry of the band is solid. Everyone is enjoying shaking the dust off.”

White also explained that although ILYBICD took a few years off from playing shows, they have been getting together often to record and brainstorm. They are working on a new record in their own studio here in town. The upcoming album will be released on Secretly Canadian. The band’s moniker might appear a tad gimmicky on first glance but once you take in the melodic guitars, synth flourishes, and especially, the melancholy and poignant lyricism, the name fits impeccably. The notable rhythms are a perfect foundation for the textured, driving guitars that mark the band’s sound and there is a hint of (certain) 80’s new-wave in the dark atmospheres generated by the band. Never a bad thing in our opinion! Check it out for a reasonable price of $10; promising locals Ume and The Boxing Lesson support.
